The winner of the competition amateur capsules Hyperloop accelerated to 320 km / h

25 teams went to start Hyperloop Pod Competition, but only three were destined to reach the final. This Munich Warr, Canadian Paradigma and Swiss Swissloop. Three teams, three different technologies, three interesting results that will determine the further development of the transport system Hyperloop.

The competition rules are simple: there is a route, a low-pressure pipe with a length of 1.25 km, which needs to be driven as quickly as possible. Participants are free to use that way of overclocking the capsule, which they like, within reasonable limits. Team Warr designed an ultralight (80 kg) electric car with a 50 kW engine. They perfectly calculated everything – the same engineers won the previous similar competition in January.

The second place was taken by the student team, who was inspired by the SpaceX project. At the start, they used the acceleration module, in analogy with the launch vehicle, and then the capsule flew exactly along the center of the pipe due to its aerodynamic properties. True, they managed to accelerate only to 101 km / h against 320 km / h from the winner – the space technologies on Earth do not always serve as a guarantee of success.

The Swiss did not begin to philosophize and put a jet engine on the capsule for Hyperloop. There was a lot of noise, communication loss and risky moments, and the maximum officially recorded speed was only 40 km / h. And this suggests that there is as yet no clear understanding of the principles of work and development of the Hyperloop system in the world. Or there is no unity of opinions – the same Mask trolls the participants of the competition, making a strange wonder why no one accelerated to 1000 km / h in such “greenhouse conditions”?

We will wait for the next contest and see what conclusions the leading experts in this industry have made for themselves.
